Introducing Journeys Through the Year!

I am so excited to start using the new common core Journeys reading program. Since I love to start each new school year prepared and organized, I knew I had to create something to help me easily transition into this new series. So, here is what I came up with...

I created this product to help those who use Journeys stay organized as you plan for reading instruction each day. All of the labels in this pack are the perfect size for a pocket chart. Every single card is clearly labeled with the lesson number.

Here is what's included...

Focus Wall Headers
Leave the focus wall headers in your pocket chart permanently and just change the skills for each lesson.

Essential Questions
I always disliked having to write the essential question each day/week.
Now I don't have to!

Target Skills/Strategies and Writing Genres
The skills, strategies, and genre cards are all labeled with the lesson numbers so you can use it, store it, and then easily find it for the next lessons.

Grammar, Spelling, and Phonics Skills
Each color coded card is labeled with the lesson number and ready to hang on your Focus Board every week.

Scope and Sequence
These easy to read scope and sequences will help you know, at a glance, what is being taught in each lesson and what books you need to pull.

HFW for Word Wall
As the HFW are taught, you can hang them on your word wall. Each card is labeled with the lesson number. Spelling words are also included, to be hung on your focus board.

This pack also comes with 7 separate scope and sequences that contain the weekly sight words, spelling words, reading target skills/strategies, grammar skills, spelling/phonics skills, vocabulary skills, and writing skills for each lesson.

I plan on storing everything in a file crate or a file cabinet. Each lesson will be stored in its own file folder. When I am finished using the items for each lesson, I will file them back in the correct folder. Talk about organized!

If you are using Journeys and you teach first grade, I hope you check it out and let me know what you think. Click on the image below to see it in my store!

  1. Wow Lori! How did you even get all this information?! We are starting the new common core series too and we don't have any of the curriculum just yet. I am planning on attending a training this summer for it though. I can't wait to check this out! I'm most excited about the scope and sequence, HFW, and spelling words! Thanks for creating an awesome resource!

  2. Nice! Can't wait to see your kinder version! We are starting Journeys for the first time this year. I'm lucky enough to have gotten ahold of all the teachers guides to try and get ready for next year, but it's a lot more scattered and all over the place than our last HM series was with its nicely laid out themes!

  10. I sure wish you were doing the Reading Street reading series. I would love to have all of the Journeys stuff except for Reading Street. You have such wonderful products, I don't know how you do it.

  12. Just wondering...is Journeys like the Treasures Reading Series? It looks like similar skills. We use Treasures and this may work for me, too.

    1. Melanie,

I am not familiar with Treasures. I'm sorry! Maybe someone else will be able to answer your question.

  15. I have been using Journeys for two years now and the program comes with all of this. Our district purchased the Focus Wall poster which contains all this info, BUT your lay out is much more appealing. I love that it can all fit in a pocket chart.
