New Year's Linky

I'm linking up with one of my best blogging buddies, Jen Ross, from The Teacher's Cauldron. She's having a link-up for us to share one personal and one blogging resolution. And, we all know that resolutions only work if we tell hundreds of people about them, right?

Personal Resolution
Well, my one personal resolution is to write neater when I'm not writing for and with my students. I actually have really nice handwriting when I'm around my students.

Neat right? But, something happens when I'm writing notes to myself.

I bet you can't even read it! Well, my resolution is to write neater when I'm not with my students so that I can actually read my notes and lists and stuff.

Blogging Resolution
My blogging resolution is to try my best to not take an hour or longer to write my posts. Seriously! It takes me f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to write every single post. It could be because I write, look at facebook, answer emails, and do about 10 other things at the same time! I LOVE to blog, but, I have got to try and give it my full attention so that I finish my posts in a timely fashion. Does anyone else multitask while you're blogging? While I am writing this post, these are the other things I did at the same time:

1. Answered 2 emails
(one from Alessia and one from Kristen).

2. Took this picture of my yorkie, Max
(to show Kristen!)

3. Watched a really cute video of Kristen's new yorkie, Koda, playing with his squeaky toy!

4. Pinned a few things to a new collaborative kindergarten pinterest board. You should check it out!

5. Wrote a few comments on facebook to my buddies.

I think you get the hint! I resolve to write a blog post and do nothing else at the same time. Let's see how long that lasts!

I look forward to reading about everyone's resolutions. And, to writing neater. And writing quicker blog posts. Wish me luck!

  3. That Pinterest link is awesome! Thank you for sharing it. I also "multi-task" when I'm on the computer doing anything and I wonder why it takes so long! :)

  5. I am super jealous of your school handwriting! I'm with you on the multitasking. I find that I do MUCH better if I only focus on one thing at a time. :)

  8. Wow, I just came across your network of bloggers last night when I entered a contest. Talk about a wonderful gift! You are awesome, I love the list. Like most of the others, I multitask way tooooo much! I have been tossing around the idea of putting together some of my classroom ideas and posting them but I just don't know where to start. Any ideas? Maybe you incredibly intelligent ladies can put together a tutorial on how to create a unit, hmmmmm, maybe my New Years Wish will come true.....

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words. As far as starting, you just have to jump in with both feet. That's what I did. It was really easy once I got started. There are actually lots of tutorials on how to create a unit. If you Google it, I bet you'll find tons! Good luck to you!

    2. I had to laugh when I read this post! It's really refreshing to know that I am not the only one who takes FOREVER to post. I have so many ideas and it's hard to stay focused. I read so many fantastic posts, including yours, of course, and wonder how in the world you manage your time creating, posting and blogging so well. Maybe the ability to multitask is a good thing! :)

Off to try to be speedy with a post and link up!

    3. I'm in the same boat as you.. I either A: Am multi-tasking too much that I get off task or forget my ideas B: Struggle with the patience of putting things together into a unit/resource.. I really have NO patience for making things cute on the computer. I'd much rather do it with markers and paper or C: Start to put something together and then in school, we move onto something different so I don't have time to finish the unit.. I'd rather spend my time on what we are doing currently..Being a first year teacher definitely contributes to this so maybe as the years go on I'll improve! :) Hoping to get better at this too!!

  10. Girl!! What teacher can do just ONE thing without multitasking? If there is one out there, I would love to know their secret! We are built for multi-tasking! :) Cheers to the new year and for crushing our resolutions!

  12. Don't you just love multi-tasking teachers. I think we juggle so many things in our classrooms with our students. So why not cook supper, reply to emails, check facebook, and work on a unit all at the same time while at home. :) Good luck with your resolutions.

  13. I hear you about taking so long to write posts! I must "Preview" them about 10 times to make sure there are no spelling or grammatical errors and everything is lined up correctly, etc.. My focusing trick it to wear headphones while listening to my Relax Melodies App on the Concentration setting. (And I'm going to try viewing Netflix as a reward for completing posts....because I'm dying to watch that next episode of Downton Abbey!!)

  14. I am so right there with you on ALL of it. My writing ( when not with students) is so horrible that I can't even read it. I am constantly writing ideas for TPT units on sticky notes, and then I can never read what I had written down. I take forever to write a blog post or work on a TPT unit because I get SO distracted. I might miss something on Facebook, or a sell on TPT, or find a resource I want to find out more about. Good luck with those New Year's Resolutions.

    Happy New Year to you!

  17. I was just nodding my head the whole time I was reading this, I have so much going on when I'm posting, all these minimized sites, click back on that one, then go leave a message to someone on another one, pat the dog, but stay seated, buy something on Etsy, you get the picture:) I love Max - so sweet.

  18. I am the same way! I sort of drive myself crazy, but I can't help it. I also take forever with every post. I want to post more frequently, but I take way too much time! Plus I always like to be doing 10 things at once. It must be a teacher thing! :) Good luck with your resolutions!

  20. My handwriting is also very neat and I always get comments on it but like you if I am writing notes, you would think a doctor was writing it because it is very hard to read. I even struggle to read my own writing sometimes.

Women were made to multitask. My hubby can only do one thing at a time. I do wish I could be like that, I try but I end doing the same thing! Old habits die hard.

Wishing you a year full of love, laughter and good health Lori.
