One of my very best favorite displays in my classroom is my writing menu. It has become an invaluable tool in my writing classroom and has undergone numerous updates since it was created. Today, I am going to share two recent updates, and give you a chance to win this product!
Recently, I blogged about how I added numbers to the menu so the children could easily find the reproducibles that correspond with each menu item. You can read that post by clicking on the image below.
Since then, I decided to make a checklist for my students to keep in their work folder so they can monitor which menu items they have completed. The rule is, you need to complete each activity once before you can do them again. Some students favor one item or another, but, I want them to try each activity. As they finish an activity, they lightly color in the box. This is what the checklist looks like:
It's an exact replica of what is hanging on the wall. The empty space is because of the restroom sign. Man, I wish that sign wasn't there! If you look carefully, you'll notice the checklist has an activity that is not on the wall yet. Yesterday, I made a menu poster and I haven't had a chance to laminate the poster. The children can write a school lunch menu or create a menu for a restaurant for which they have to give a name. They are so excited to make a menu! I plan on collecting menus from area restaurants to have on hand as reference. They even have to price their items. I can't wait to see how much they charge! This will lead to a discussion on under/overpricing, for sure! Here is what the menu poster looks like:
If you purchased this product already, be sure to go and re-download it so you can have the menu, too. There are actually a few different menu choices for the children to choose from. Of course, creating their own menu out of construction paper is also an option.
If you purchased this product or plan to purchase it in the future and you want a checklist for your students, just shoot me an email and I'll let you know how you can get one. You can also click here to read my policy on custom orders.
