I was so excited to receive a package today from one of my favorite teacher resource companies...Creative Teaching Press. I have so many of their wonderful products and heavily rely on them to supply me with their research-based, teacher-tested products.
They have a wonderful series called Language Games Galore and I was given the opportunity to review Grades 1 and 2 Parts of Speech and Language Mechanics. Both of these books contain 10 ready-to-use memory games, each with 20 matches, and 10 reproducible activity pages that teach and reinforce essential language arts skills. I especially love that every game plays by an identical set of rules and directions. Once students learn how to play one game, they have learned how to play all 10 games. Each game comes with an answer key, which is extremely helpful.
Here are some pictures from the Grade 1 Capitalization Game. The cards are perforated and need to be separated. Laminate them for durability.
Students need to match all pairs of cards in the fewest number of turns. It is recommended that 2-3 students play the games at a time.
In the capitalization game, students match names, days of the week, first letters, months, etc.
Here is an example of the reproducible activity. This can be used as review, homework, or an assessment.
The games store nicely in a baggie or manila envelope.
Here are some pictures from the Grade 2 Capitalization Game.
I love these books because the games come ready made and require minimal preparation, they contain all of the important grammar skills covered in each grade, and they come with ideas for additional uses for all the games. These games will definitely be enjoyed by my students.
Click on the cover of each book to see more information, including some sample pages and a video. While you're there, check out all the other wonderful products! Then, use the rafflecopter below to enter my giveaway for a chance to win a copy of either the first grade, second grade, or both books. Good luck!
