Here is what the HearAll Assessment Recorder looks like:
And here are some great things this incredible tool does:
- It allows you to be in two places at once. Really! When you are teaching in small groups, it provides an extra set of ears so that you can monitor other groups, while you are tending to your own.
- You can actually hear who is involved and participating in the groups and who is having difficulty.
- You can even save several recordings over time and upload them to your blog, classroom homepage, or, you can give them to specialists for them to use in their assessments.
- It requires no batteries (it's rechargeable), is lightweight, and is sleek and attractive.
Children absolutely LOVE technology and they will adore recording themselves doing their best work. I tried it out last week and I was amazed at how clear the children's voices were recorded, even though there was lots of background noise. Everyone in the group was heard perfectly. I am looking forward to using this in my writing classroom. The children can record themselves reading their published pieces. In addition, when I am conferencing with students, I can have other students recording their conferences for me to listen to later. I can even play back successful peer conferences for the entire class to hear, so that all my students will learn how to conduct them in order to get the most out of them. I am so excited to use the HearALL Assessment Recorder in my classroom!
I am happy to give someone else a chance to get their hands on this remarkable assessment tool. There are several ways to enter, so you can pick and choose the ones that appeal to you. However, the more you choose, the better your chances are of winning one. Please be sure you enter honestly, as this giveaway will be closely monitored. Don't forget to leave your email address in the comment section so I can contact the winner. Good luck, everyone!

I was actually just thinking about purchasing a handheld recorder for reading fluency checks and to let students hear themselves! this would be a wonderful tool!
ReplyDeleteI love this tool. It would make it easier to follow all conversations in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI would use this with my ESL students for pronunciation, fluency practice, and just for them to practice speaking and listening. I would also use it with my other students to record during independent reading time to assist in my monitoring.

I would have my students read to it. It would also be good as a book listening center.
ReplyDeleteAmber
Love all your ideas to use this. I would really like to use it for reading their stories, checking some of the literacy stations where they are working with words. I would like to hear them read the words they are working on. Sometimes if there is time I will have them bring their station where they have practiced different words and they will read it to me. This would be a much better way to see if the practice is helping them.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of kids recording their created books. Motivation to do a great job!
ReplyDeleteI think I would use it all the ways that you posted above, Lori. Plus, I think I would use one to leave station directions for a week or so after it's introduced for questions students may have.

What a blessing this would be for any teacher, especially now adays when we have so much data to collect and the students need to be monitored informally often. If I won this HearAll Assessment device, I would use it everyday to monitor book talks, literature circles, reading rates, math talks, and even allow students to create read alouds that model reading strategies they use to monitor reading comprehension, then share it with fellow book buddies or the class. Thanks for this great opportunity. Mrsd33@comcast.net

Another great device! Fluency building came to my mind first, for me to assess, and for the kids to become aware of their own reading. I was also thinking of using it in the Listening to Reading station in my D5 literacy groups, as I'm very limited on my resources for this station.
ReplyDeletecbibel@insightbb.com
I have been wanting one of these so badly! I have their Easi-Speak recorder, and have tons of projects planned for it- but they are mostly individual projects. I like this recorder for the possibility of having it at stations to record the group work. Being able to listen to their thinking later in the day, even though I was working with a group elsewhere would be so beneficial. I would be able to share their great thinking or take time to correct a misconception.

Like you, I have seen these all over the blogosphere.I would love to use it with my middle school students with special needs. Often students have great ideas for their stories, but they get stuck when they go to write the down. I would have the students build their story by speaking with each other in groups and recording the outline of their story on here. Then they can go to the computers and work together to type up their story.
ReplyDeleteThanks for having this give away Lori! Would LOVE to win one! It would be a great tool to access and progress monitor students reading.
ReplyDeletedschmelzer@usd266.com
OMG This is so exciting. We test literally the first 6 weeks of school non-stop.. Testing early reading skills.. Test to see if the Pre-K classes did their jobs preparing the students.. Its ridiculous the # of tests we give 5 year olds and ALL OF IT ONE ON ONE.. This would be fabulous to record and then later re-listen to in case I missed something one of the kids said or didnt say! Or even later in the year have the kids in one group record their retelling or how they work together in a group.

Wow, great giveaway! I really like all your ideas on ways to use it. I think in the long run I'd use them all, but to start off with, I'd use the recorder for benchmark assessments and during center time so that students can record themselves reading or talking through a story they would like to write. As a first year teacher, this would be a great help!!! I am your 1000th follower :)

What a great product! Would love to use for fluency assessment!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you how i was going to use this technology in my classroom. :) I am going to be teaching high school special education. I can use this to record fluency for a student so they don't have to be right with me for the read. That might help them with their nervousness.

ReplyDeleteI would use this for reading fluency in order to give my students a chance to listen to what they read and check for their own mistakes. This could help them with self correction. It could also work for reading assessments so that I could go back and check my students reading after completing DRA's/running recores
ReplyDeleteMuch better than using a tape recorder and a tape for each student! I would love to have this, not only to show kids how they sound when they read, but also to record them at different points of the year to show their progress, even being able to show to parents. What a great tool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful device to use for fluency and literature circles. It could be used as an assessment or just day to day practice.
