Here is another excellent, must have, educational tool from Learning Resources!
The Easi-Speak USB Recorder.
The Easi-Speak USB Recorder.
This is an amazingly fun and useful tool for any classroom. Learning Resources has given me one to review and I am very excited to share my findings with you.
And, stick around, because you can win one, too!
This is how the microphone comes shipped to you.
And, this is actually what it looks like.
It's the perfect size for little hands and is incredibly easy to use. All you have to do to record yourself, is push the red "record" button. To play back what you've recorded, you just push the green "play" button. Even our youngest students will be successful. I especially love that it is wireless and does not require batteries. You just connect it to your computer's USB to charge it back up. It gives you 4 hours of audio before it needs to be charged.
I tried it out on some of my students who are in summer camp and they all loved it. You should have seen the smiles on their faces when they played themselves back. I had them each read a whole story and then I played it back for everyone to hear. Even the really shy children were excited to use it. I can only imagine what this will do for the self esteem of our most reluctant readers!
As a writing teacher, I will have my young authors read their finished pieces into the microphone. Then, I will play it back for the class to hear. I will also use it for teacher conferences, storytelling, assessments, and more.
What will you use it for? I can't wait to hear! There are several ways you can enter to win one for your classroom, so feel free to pick and choose the ways that appeal to you. However, the more ways you choose, the better your chances are of winning. Please be sure you enter this contest honestly, as this giveaway will be closely monitored. You may click on "view terms and conditions" (at the bottom of the rafflecopter) for more information on how a winner is chosen. Good luck everyone!

Oh my gosh! I use voice recorders in my classroom! However, I struggle with them remembering how to use them. They are not made for 1st graders. These would be perfect! If I don't win one, I know I will be buying some! Thanks for showing them to us!

ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to have the opportunity to use this within my classroom as it would be a big help for my first year teaching a split grade 1/2 classroom. The student would be able to record themselves to hear how their story sounds. They might be encouraged to fix up their work to make it sound even better when they hear it. Also it might help some who are not over outgoing to be less self-conscious of their work. Looks like a great too I'd love to try!

This giveaway is awesome. I would definitely use this during my iii(small groupings) As you know, our school spend 30minutes daily to work with low students through Immediate Intensive Intervention. Students would love to hear their voice and I will make them understand where they went wrong with pronunciation when they hear their voice again. This will help themself correct during Reading Fluency. I am soo pumped up to start the school and work hard. Our school was a "D" last year and because of everyone's hard work we went to B. This is very inspiring for me to work hard more. I would be very happy to have this in my classroom which will also help mimimize distractions because your low group will focus more. Thanks Mary Anne Howell howellmaryanne@yahoo.com

I teach in a Special Education class and these would be wonderful for multiple reasons. This would be great as feedback for kids to hear their reading for fluency. It could also be used for students to read social stories that then could be played back to them as a learning tool. what a great resource!
ReplyDeleteI am a kindergarten teacher and would use this so the children could hear themselves while practicing letter sounds. we just had a workshop on how amplification helps the children pay more attention and enhances their ability to hear sounds better... Thanks so much, I hope I win! =)
ReplyDeleteCCS talks all over about fluency and using technology to build that fluency! SO this recorder would be PERFECT for that! Thanks soo much!
ReplyDeleteWow! I can think of a million ways how I would use this device, but most have been mentioned here on the blog. Of course I would use it to assess flueny, articulation, and word attack skills. I would also use it to add to my students electronic portfolios. Having a digital recording of their reading would be beneficial to them and their parents.
ReplyDeleteThe first thought I had when I saw this was that I teach children of active duty military service men and women. I teach on the second largest Marine Corps base in the world and every single one of my students have parents that are serving. How wonderful would it be to use this device to record their child reading and put it on my class website for my deployed parents in Afghanistan. The parent could log on and listen to their child read. Often times my parents are deployed for the entire school year and have no idea of the progress their child is making. This would provide them with a chance to hear their child's voice and see how well their child is reading. This would keep the servicemember involved and for a few short moments let them hear their child's voice.

ReplyDeleteI could definitely use this little guy with my curious firsties to work on their speaking skills when reading writing pieces. (I'm teaching all firsties writing this year) :) Fingers, toes, everything crossed!
ReplyDeleteOur school is starting the Daily 5 program at our school. Centers include read to self, read to someone, and listen to reading. I would be able have children read to themselves or a partner and record a book. I could then in turn look them on the computer and another student could listen the story. I could even post children reading on my blog and other students could go to the blog and listen at home! This is an exciting product!!!
ReplyDeleteI would use it to help with fluency for reading. If the students can hear themselves read they can accurately reflect on their strengths and needs. What a neat tool!

I'd love to use this to have my students record themselves reading and then they could share it or listen to help build up fluency.
ReplyDeleteIt would also be nice during assessments and retells so you could go back and transcribe!

This would be a wonderful asset to my Special Needs kids I work with. Letting them simply speak into it and hearing your voice even the one word at a time....

I would love to use these with my struggling 2nd graders to work on their fluency through repeated readings. I teach in a year-round school, and need a bit of help to keep kiddos motivated during the summer!! ;)

Hello Mrs Sykes
I teach the young five year olds and I think that the possibilities are endless of what you could do with this. We could put sound to our pictures, tell stories, and even help the "shy" child come out of their shell. It looks like a wonderful promotion. Thanks so much. bevjunge@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI would use it to record reading fluency.
